Farida's Art Portfolio

Our third unit was about impressionism and showing perspective into our work with unique background transformations. To start off with our unit we went back to what we learned in the past units with the ball and the shading but this time we did it with colored pencils that blend together and tried to make the coloring as intense as possible to show how these colors get together and make the shade in it's darkest phase to not show any lines and practiced this technique in our book until we mastered it. After that we started making some drafts of 3D buildings and focal points and we practiced that by doing 3 activities first 2D and then the last one was 3D.

After that our teacher told us about our summative so we started a brain storm of ideas for our drawings which are constructed of a story but within it there is another hidden story to show a whole scene which can be sad, scary, exciting or happy. After we chose our stories which for me was a horror story of a girl digging for a dead body in a forest but a person was behind her and going to touch her and can see what she was doing. We had to go take a picture with the help of our friends, we all had to find the perfect back ground to match with our scene and we faced some difficulties like changing the story we are making or a background not working out but after all i found my perfect spot which was a dark hallway with just a bit of light coming from behind.

When i finally took my photo after a lot of thinking and difficulties I started constructing my drawing by first drawing out the outline with special paper as shown above to the actual background to think of the transformation, then I thought to make the background a forest because it suits my whole scene the most, i also knew that the night phase in a forest is scarier and better so i made the light part the sky and used purple and dark blue to make the sky as well as white to bright up some parts. I also transformed the wall into the leafless trees and decided to make the trees black as well as the figures in the picture but add some shading with white according to where the person is standing. i made the grave or hole dark brown to show that Im digging there and also transformed the staircase at the back to a hill with a wolf howling to make it more scary. i usually see scenes like that in many movies so they inspired me to put a lot of things in this impressionism piece.
